Vol 8 starts off where Anne, Challe, and Mithril ended up staying at the workshop that Keith planned to launch along side with Anne. While the four of them have Breakfast, they heard a loud knocking on the door where they end up finding out that it was Kat and Benjamin.
Kat inform Anne and Keith that he was sent here by Hugh to learn the secret techniques that has been banned by the Crafters to learn. But since the Banned has been lifted Hugh wanted Kat to join in. Then they got another letter from Hugh to meet up with him at the Castle, the angst starts kicking in when they separate Challe and Mithril in a separate room while they take Anne, Keith, and Kat to another room.( I wonder if Kat left Benjamin at the work shop or he’s sleeping on Challe’s shoulder?)
When Anne, Keith, and Kat enter the room they are join along with Elliot, John Killean, Stella Knox and to my huge surprised Orlando.
King Edmond the Second announce to everyone that they will be training the Fairies to become Candy Crafters which was a huge surprised to everyone as much as Kat wanting to be a part of this. Hugh’s plan is for him, Anne and the gang to pay a visit to Reginald who is the head of the Fairy Guilder Guide to see if they can make a deal with him to use the Fairies to see if any of the Fairies have the potential to become Sugar Fairy Crafters.
On to the discussion and my thoughts reading Vol 8
This volume was a page turner for me. It was hard to stop and share my reactions from reading thru on X/Twitter. It was one surprised after another, but also threw in some angst as well which the last time I felt angst was after reading the end of Vol 2 and watching Episode 12 of the Anime.
Even from the start of Chapter 1 you feel not only Anne’s feelings in her POV but also Challe’s from his feelings being the Fairy King and having to carry that load.
As of writing this post I got to (unfortunately) “sorta” experience knowing how Anne feels. Even though is a relief to have a landing spot if you have to live with a Relative or Friend(s) temporarily, even if your (hopefully, because I don’t know if they are or not) surrounded by people or a person that loves and/or cares about you. But the place you’re temporarily staying until you get yourself together is not your home-home.
🍎 You have to make or try to find a space for yourself to store food that you bought and/or Medicine if the medicine your have needs to be refrigerate at all times.
🍎 You can’t sit on the Toilet for hours on in while you be on your phone or in Lala-land and same when your in the Bathtub because someone else needs to get in because they have to go somewhere or because they need to use the bathroom. One of my relatives is famous for starting their Bathtub and won’t get in it ASAP and will leave it there for hours on in where I question if he forgot all about it. So it sucks I would have to do a lazy bath.
🍎 If you don’t like what is going to be for Dinner and your broke as a joke to order anything, even a Salad then you ether have to eat left overs or just luck out or just go to bed hungry.
🍎 If all your stuff is in Storage then you would have to figure out how you can make Lemons into Lemonade when not only you only brought the essential that you need but you also have to share a Room(or even a Bed) with the person who lives in the house your temporarily staying.
For Anne’s position staying with Keith is great that she has a room of her own and she won’t have to spend many more nights sleeping in her Wagon. But Anne won’t know how Keith is going to be as a Roommate, if Keith wasn’t a Gentleman what if he’s a Sloppy drunk or a Bathroom hogger or a Peeping-Top, or what if he brings Un-invite/Surprised guest at the Workshop out of the Blue? And on top of that he confess his love to Anne. If I was Anne I would just continue to live in the Wagon, I don’t have to do any IOUs, I don’t have to share anything with anyone and I don’t mind having to do my Business if their is no Porta-potty around.
(Please do yourself this huge favor, a huge, HUUGE favor if you’re ether starting a Family or a Hostel or Foster Care please I freaking beg you don’t torcher your kid(s) or housemates in having to fight for the bathroom or have to wait to use the Bathroom or Tub or Shower until the other person gets finish. They will experience having to wait to use the Bathroom or Showers when they go to School or College or out in the Public, please don’t let them go through the same thing at home which should be a place that they should think is a happy sanctuary. I freaking miss having my own Bathroom because of the situation I’m temporarily in as of writing this post. Because I live with a lot of people in the house I have to deal with my Relative who is a Bathroom hogger, having to learn how to make a Toilet using plastic grocery bag method on my own, and I had to put my Toiletries and hygiene products in a Tote bag. Not a Drawer…Not on the Sink because it only has room to hold space for Soap or a Soap dispenser…I have to put my Bath products and Toiletry in a Tote bag. I know you’re probity thinking “Why don’t I store my Toiletry in a Bogg bag? Is water-proof and has more space.” I don’t have a Bogg bag…😅)
With Vol 8 being full of surprises with the Trio staying with Keith and letting Kat and Benjamin stay with them. (Anne and Keith are seriously the type of friends we all deserve to have. If you do have an Anne or Keith in your friend group please don’t take them for granted.)
I’m happy to quickly find out that Keith is not going to pester Anne about being his Girlfriend, but things start heat up when Challe came in on them like this…
Keith with out saying anything that he’s claiming Anne with out telling Challe that he’s claiming Anne. ( It got me to thinking of 1st choirs lines of My Nocturnal Serenade.)
Keith was low key wanting Anne to be his and even flat out admitting to Challe after Challe got finish talking to Anne alone that where ever he loves Anne or not he’s going to win her heart but he’s willing to wait until Anne sincerely wants him.
Challe and Anne had thier one on one talk alone ended up being sad which I though was going to be steamy, ended up to be a misunderstanding when Anne told Challe she wants to look at Keith like Family which how Challe took it as an offense when he thinks Anne can’t make a Family with him and gave her a reminder that she seek out family from him and Mithril.
Which when Anne told Keith she wants to look at him as Family, with Keith telling her that looking at someone as Family versus being in Love with them is something different.
(I know we all had to understand those feeling in our Tween years. I use to have a Crush on a boy back in Elementary and one back in Middle school where I question if I love ether of them as a friend or love them that I hope we can be something more deeper than just friends. At the end I move on from both of them while having the What if thoughts if we became a loving Couple playing in my mind but not obsess over it.)
Turning the focus on Challe, it was good that Challe gave Anne (and me) that reminder since so much has been going on with them threw out the Volumes and is not haunting our mind. (Like Full Metal Alchemist(not Brotherhood) which I know FMA’s premise is for Ed to get Al’s body back because they were trying to bring back their Mom from doing that. But we’re reminded by this so much that I can’t remember an Episode where Ed doesn’t remind us the reason they need to get the stone.)
That ever since Anne’s Mom left Anne due to an illness, that Anne became an Orphan and badly wanted a family. Seeing Challe wanting to find his other Brother even though he never vocally say it. But this reminds us that there will be pains that we all won’t or might feel, but we can understand and respect them. You may or may not went through knowing the pain of being lonely having no family or anyone but just You, yourself and I. But you can try to understand that person’s pain or hardship in that position and respect their feelings on it.
Things start to get creepy when we got introduce to Reginald that Hugh was looking for in order to see if they can make a deal with him to use the Fairies if any of the Fairies Reginald owns have the potential to become Sugar Fairy Crafters. But the shocking discovery that Reginald reviled that kept a Fairy in a Coffin and the fairy that was in it was Lafall. I had to say…
WHAT THE FREAKING HECK!!!
That really shock me was knowing Challe didn’t kill off Lafall and he was still alive after that fall. But I just question how ??? Even watching the Anime we saw how Challe defeated Lafall or worldly describe in our heads about it in Vol 6 depending on what you read or saw first or both.
Then I got another what the heck moment when The Earl of Downing sent out an order to kill Challe and now Reginald. I said a lot on X/Twitter that Reginald was a creep, but even with him being a creep and doing things with his blade that he needs some help.
(Just like students who I ether had class with or see them at lunch time who be acting really off and not in a “Special way” that I wonder if they got the help they need and I wonder what is going on in the home to make them act like Andy from the Office when he crash out and went to Anger Management class.)
But he doesn’t deserves to get killed off. The only person he did wrong to in Challe’s eye is Lafall and he sold his Fairy for money. But he didn’t hurt Anne or Hugh or Kat or Keith. He’s just a guy who going through some pain relating to his past. And his greed for money, which connects back to his past. It speaks volume when Anne ask him what to make him and he ask her to make a Sugar confectionery of money speaks volume.
Then when Ann got to talk to The Earl of Downing, we found out the reason why he want to kill off Challe and Reginald was because he didn’t want another rebellion and was mentally hurt by the events of it.
Now I wonder if The Earl of Downing is not truly the villain of Sugar Apple Fairy Tale. At first I though it was Jonas, then I though it was Bridget, and then I though it was Lafall.
In the end I’m happy everything has work out in this volume. Nobody got kill off, Anne work her magic to warm Reginald and the Earl’s heart, Keith became the MVP in stopping the Earl from his mess and we finally got to meet Challe’s Younger brother.
Which I though he was going to be like Elsa but he became more of a Character that I hope we get to know more of in Vol 9. I was shock that Erril ended up not wanting to join Anne and the gang and he has this yearning of wanting to find Lafalle. I just feel bad for Challe getting the Middle Child syndrome treatment in this Volume. (Erril, your other brother is here! Don’t you give at lease a care about him?!?! He low-key gives a care about you!)
But how the ending turn out knowing Lafalle woke up is going to be a battle of the century with a 1 on 2 battle between Challe going up against his Older and Younger Brother.
The interactions I enjoy was Hugh and Kat’s as well as Challe and Salim’s interaction, I really enjoy learning more about Sail which got me to wonder if Hugh was a thief like Sail?Hugh’s back story was really good to get into and it was deep how he would sacrifice himself just for the greater good annd Anne wanting to make sure his sacrifice wasn’t in vain. And I felt Anne for feeling this way because I would feel the same way if anyone dose me a huge favor or do something sacrificial for my sake’s.
Which I been in situations where I feel I need to owe back a person because in the back of my mind is the lease I can do. But also feel idk how I can even give back. If I’m not sitting on money, then I can spread the word or help out how every I can. That doesn’t involved money, but if Keith didn’t came in time all what Hugh hope for would be all in Vain. Especially for Anne because I can’t believe the Earl would even kill off Anne too.
One of the interesting things I learn about Anne’s Dad is that he build Wagons for a living before he was kill off in the war. If he was the one that build the Wagon that Anne use to this day, re-watching SAFT is going to hit differently in “Wow…” kinda way. Maybe that’s why Anne never had a Home-Home because the Wagon hold sentimental values to Anne’s Mom and it’s why talking about Anne’s Dad makes her cry.
Until we wait until Vol 9 is release, now we need to know…..
Is Challe going to confess to Anne?
Is Keith gonna lose his patience and just confess to Anne?
Is Erril going to realized which Brother he needs to side with when he got himself together?
These questions may or may not be anwser in Vol 9. Is now available for Pre-order at the Yen Press store and at any of your favorite stores to buy books.
